‘Thoonavolla’ Cleans up at Cocklebarrow
Connections of ‘Thoonavolla’ celebrated a successful day at Cocklebarrow on 1 March, dominating the Subaru Restricted Point to Point Series race on all fronts. The chestnut gelding looked resplendent in the paddock and was awarded ‘Best Turned Out’ and then went onto win the race outright.
His jockey and trainer, Tom Weston passed Mark Wall’s ‘DanDan’, half a mile out and took a confident victory twelve lengths clear. Darach Skelly brought Mickey Bowen’s ‘Weight It Up’ home in second and ‘DanDan’ held on for third six lengths behind. Members of ‘The Troubled Partnership’ syndicate who own ‘Thoonavolla’ were all smiles as he added a second Cocklebarrow victory to his tally having won a maiden at the Gloucestershire track in January.
The South Midlands Area Hunt Club day was a re-scheduled fixture after the original date had been lost to poor weather a month ago. Dealer Principal of John Wilkins Cars, the local Subaru dealership in Cheltenham, Stephen Wilkins, presented the syndicate of owners and winning jockey with their trophies. John Wilkins Cars displayed vehicles from the current Subaru range, including a new model Outback which goes on sale in the UK this spring.
Next weekend sees a busy weekend for the twenty-six race series, with three fixtures on the cards at Kingston Blount, Ampton and Ratcheugh Farm.
